How To Keep a Dog from Running Away
Identify the source of your dog's fear if you think fear is what's causing her to run, and try to eliminate it.
..:::How To Pet
Q:Hello! I'll start right at the point...The day after I had hand surgery my pup(2 yr old today the 13th)she started drinking about 1 1/2 gal a day of water, thus urinating very frequently and in the house as well(poor baby is so embarased by this!) Took her to vet within 3 days, with more complaints of not wanting to play, increased hunger and generally not feeling well, where blood work, urinalysis and physical exam proved 'unremarkable' and found a possible fatty tumor on her collar bone. Vet is going to test for Cushings next week, but considering pup's age the vet basically wants to rule out Cushings.Is it possible for young dog to get cushings? Our other thought was her being depressed by my surgery, which upset our regular daily routine of walking and playing frequently. Annie is a Wheaten/chow mix by the way...we enjoy agility and obedience together and lots of ball playing!!
anyone have any thoughts to be considered? I would appreciate it.
Thanks! annieb
A:Young dogs can possibly get cushings, but I don't believe it's the "norm". Did your vet check for diabetes? All the bloodwork came back okay? Diabetes and cushings are very similar in diagnosis (excessive drinking, and 'p-ing', hunger to name a few).
A:Hello, thank you for your reply,
all blood work and uninalysis came back normal. We have an appointment to test acth next week. Interesting development; when we went to doggie classes and agility(which we have missed for the past 3 weeks)she came around;became quite perky and wasn't a ravishingly hungry nor thirsty as she had been and was so very excited and responsive!...saw our vet at class and she said it may have been that my pup has missed her social times and was bored or depressed...to watch and wait for a couple of days before deciding to go thru the extra tests.
