..:::How To Pet
Q:Hi- My 14 year old 9 lb. female cock-a-poo has a cataract in her left eye and has recently been diagnosed with glaucoma in that eye also. (She also has failing kidneys and has just been put on the K/d diet today, after losing 2 lbs in the last few months.) Antibiotics took down a lot of swelling and the infection has cleared. The glaucoma drops, now of about 2 weeks duration are not keeping the pressure down. My vets have recommended a dog opthamologist but I have a dilemma. That doctor may recommend surgery, after the $300 consultation. If the glaucoma is caused by a shifting cataract then removing that will "cure" the glaucoma. Or, some duct could be clogged and surgery could fix that. Or, the eye could be removed (which may be the cheapest alternative and the one that may end up being done anyway.) I am leaning towards removal. Any thoughts or suggestions?
