How To Keep Dogs and Cats From Fighting
Keep the cat and dog in separate areas at first so that they can get used to the scent and sounds of each other. When you go from one pet’s area to another’s, let them sniff your hands and clothing.

Q:So everything is going good with the kittens now, they're a week and 3 days old, I'm probably just be to antsy/cautious/concerned but I'm wondering when the kitties will start going to the bathroom and their mom won't clean it up any more and how and when do I introduce them to a kittie box?? Their mom goes outside and I don't know if she has ever been familier with a litter box, since she was a stray and we just took her in before she had the kitties. Any suggestions? My friend her at work seems to think that when the time comes, momma kittie will help show them to the kitty box but I'm not sure since she's not to familier with it either? as usual!!
A:I introduced my guy to the "litter box" at 2wks. It wasn't an actual litter box, as they would have been too high for him to get in and out of. I used a cardboard tray, (what canned food comes in at the supermarket, I solicited lots of them from the local store). I used maybe a cup of litter.

He played in it at first, which is fine, by the third week he was using it. It just came naturally for him. He was abandoned at 2days, so didn't have his mother around to learn from. By 5weeks, he was a litter box specialist and used a real litter box with ease

Good luck, just be patience and be prepared to clean their little feet etc, when they walk through the poop that they just did!

If mum dosen't clean them up anymore, I'd say it's time for a litter box.
A:If the kittens are with mom, she will clean up after them UNTIL they start eating solid food.

You can start weaning them at 4 - 5 weeks, and introducing them to the litter box. Usually they will just copy mom and use it, so you should keep her in. She WILL use the box. Make sure the sides are low enough so the kittens can get in the box.

Do NOT use scoopable litter for the kittens - use plain clay.

I think I told you to keep mom in the house? (if it wasn't you, sorry)

She can get pregnant again by the time the kittens are 4 weeks old!!! You need to have her spayed as soon as the kittens are weaned and her milk dries up.
A:Most cats just learn by themselfs. Momma cat will take the kittens to the litter box and let them use it. Sometimes the mother cat will lick the kitten's bum to stimulate it.
