Q:If anyone can help me or just give me some advice, Id be very grateful.
2 days ago July 16. I have bought a Doberman Pinschers from one of the CKC registered breeder. The breeder said there is a particular dog that has been assigned for me. When I go to his Kennel, the breeder has shown me the dog. The puppy is exactly 8 weeks old. The baby Doberman is not too active, but the breeder said that he was sleep in the Kennel before and he just woke him up. Overall, he is a beautiful dog, so I have completed the full payment as well as signed the agreement.
Yesterday morning, when he woke up hes suddenly having diarrhea several times with in an hour. And he has vomited several times as well. I was so scared, because after I have cleaned up his messes he falls down on the newspaper and keeps shaking. So I bring him to the emergency clinic. The vets said the dog might have some intestine infections Ill have to leave my dog in the clinic for a night. I was very upset and called up the breeder and have told him what the vet told me. The breeder said he doesnt understand what I said .So I let him talked to the Vet. But he got angry and cut him off on the phone while he is talking.
So, today I have contact the Canadian Kennel Club and told him everything about this incident. But the lady in Client and Services said she couldnt help me. She mentioned that CKC couldnt do anything beside making sure the breeder has provided the right contract agreement and information, they will not help any owners to claim for any liabilities due to the fault of the owner.
Im so worried and very upset right now. I just got my new puppy for less than 24 hours, but he got very sick right away. I have spent over a thousand dollars just to give him the treatment for the second day I owned him. The vet has told me that the dog should be infected before I get him, but the breeder seems like he doesnt want to take any responsibilities. What should I do now? Where can I go complain? Any other organization can help me?
Thank you for all of your help

A:Did you sign a contract with this "breeder"? If so, what are the health guarantees? Also, try and contact the Doberman Club of Canada to see if they can give you any more details on this "breeder" and how to rectify the situation . Keep everything well documented as you may have to go to small claims court to get reimbursed for being sold a sick puppy. I'm very sorry this happened and I hope your little one is soon on the mend.
A:You will probably have to sue.
For the future, or anyone else reading, CKC/AKC papers mean NOTHING as far as what kind of a breeder you're dealing with. Contact the breed clubs if you want to know who is reputable. Most puppies being sold from puppy mills are papered - it means nothing.
Good luck with your puppy.

A:Agree with BMDLuver. Also re emergency clinics, since you are in Toronto wanted to make sure you are aware of the relatively new 24 hour a day clinic on McMurrich Street. They are very nice there - and this is where appointments are arranged with neurologists etc.
