How To Stop Your Dog from Jumping
Keep the dog upright. This is the real trick in training your dog not to jump: holding both of her paws in each hand, keep her upright for several minutes until she becomes uncomfortable.

Get a pint or quart of Mystery Oil (it comes in a red can) at auto parts stores and other places, oil supplies or sold. Apply the oil directly to the ticks. Give the ticks about a minute to get drunk. Move the ticks back and forth slowly and gently. Apply just enough Mystery Oil to keep the tick and surrounding skin lubricated. Hopefully, they will release their bite so you can pull them out without leaving the head of a tick in the victim's flesh. (If the head of a tick is left in its victim the tick may grow back to full size or cause itching for days.)

Check for ticks in the inner ear of animals. Bleeding ears is probably an indication a pet has been hopelessly trying to scratch away ticks.

Get your anti flea and tick medications for animals from a veterinarian, a pet or feed store, the kind you apply to the back of a pet's neck. They're usually good for about 3 or 4 months. Once or twice a year is likely enough. In winter months they are probably unnecessary.
