How To Train Your Dog to Stop Barking
Say "Good" at the exact instant your pet exhibits good behavior, followed by a reward and plenty of praise.
..:::How To Pet
Be aware that rabies is a virus which is transmitted by bites from one animal to the next, and then to people. Be aware that the virus incubates in the area of the bite then after a few days works its way up nerves to the brain. Be aware that after the virus gets into nerves and begins this journey, there is no cure. Know that raccoons, bats and all manners of other creatures in the wild can carry the deadly virus but not be killed or otherwise affected by it. Be aware that the virus can eat up and irreversibly affect brain tissue.

Realistically assess your animal's situation. If rabies vaccination was done within the last year in young animals, or within two years in older animals, there is probably protection from the wild or unvaccinated domestic animal that bit the domestic animal in question. Treat wound around bite with antibiotics and peroxide in any case, and give rabies booster if in doubt. Do this immediately.

Be aware that the signs of rabies appear within about 12 days. Diseased animals can be either overly aggressive or overly passive. Rabies can produce almost any kind of neurological abnormality. Diagnosis of rabies is only possible by taking brain tissue of carrier or diseased animal and submitting it to a lab.

Understand that rabies can spread to humans, which means you if you get bit by the animals in question, so wear protective gloves and take other precautions when dealing with suspect animals. Also be aware that if your pet is not up to date with rabies vaccinations, it can be taken away from you and killed in the interest of public health if it is involved in an animal fight or any attack on people.
