Train a Boxer Dog to Catch a Frisbee

The first thing you will need to teach your Boxer will be to calm down long enough to see the Frisbee. Boxers are very hyper by nature, and he will be wanting to chase something right away. So be sure to put his nose right up against the Frisbee as soon as you get outside.

Teaching your boxer to sit is a must for this activity, as you want him to have his attention squarely on the Frisbee. Most boxers will begin to do this naturally once they are aware that the game is to sit, and then chase. Boxers do not mind waiting as long as the payoff is worth it.

Have your boxer sit about four feet to your left. Once he sits, let him get a quick sniff of the Frisbee.

Next, bring the Frisbee back, and give it a little flip while at the same time encouraging him to go and get it. Do not throw it to far at first. You want him to get the hang of it.

You will quickly discover that the Boxer has no problems catching the Frisbee. He will take to that right away. The problem is getting him to return it to you. This part will take practice.

One good practice that you can do with your boxer is to have him sit right beside you, and hold his collar. Give the Frisbee a toss while not allowing the Boxer to chase it right away. Tell him to wait, and after several seconds, release him. Have him bring it back to you and drop it at your feet.

With enough repetition, your Boxer will quickly learn the rules of the game, and take to playing proper with you. Praising him will go a long ways towards your ultimate goal, and regular practice. These two keys will have you playing Frisbee like a pro with your Boxer buddy!
