Show them the doggy door. Take your dog near the doggy door and make a fun playful game of showing them that it leads to the backyard. Most dogs will figure this out pretty quickly and run through the door.

Put the newspaper inside of box. You don’t need an entire paper, just enough to reinforce the lining.
Arrange the thick paper inside the box over the newspaper. Line it securely around the inside, paying special attention to the corners. If you need to, cut the paper to get rid of excess edges. You may want to place hold the paper with a small piece of tape until you can get the corners secured.
Begin taping the edges of the paper to the plastic litter box liner. Tape all around the box, paying special attention to the corners and any folds and creases in the paper where the cat can hook its claws. The object is to have a smooth surface to add the litter.
