How To Avoid a Dog Bite
Never look directly into a strange dog's eyes. This can be viewed as a threat or challenge. It can trigger some dogs to bite.

The placement of this door should be inside your all ready hung door. It will be placed to open in the opposite direction as your current door.
For example, our current bedroom door opens outward toward the hallway. Our kitty barrier door opens inward toward the bedroom.
Once you have your measurements, mark your plywood and cut it to fit.
Look at hinges See if your cut is correct. If it is you can now begin hanging the door. Remember it is to be hung the opposite direction. Watch how you put on those hinges.
Use a hinge near the top of the door. Place one screw into it. (You should use your drill.). Now do the same to the bottom hinge.
Test the door. Does it seem to open correctly? If it does, add the additional screws. If it doesn't take out the first two screws and repositioned the board.
Remember you want a tight fit. Kitty or a little dog could squeeze or pry their way through little cracks. Animals are smart.
You also don't want the new door to drag at the bottom.
Once the hinges are placed correctly, you will not want to attach the gate type fastener. Do this near the top of the new door. If you do it at the top you will be able to reach over and lock and unlock it from the outside.
A good trick in doing this is by again using your drill and a small drill bit to begin a hole. You will need to make a hole to the side of the door. This is where the fastener part goes. Once you have your hole, you can screw the fastner in with your hand. Now do the same to the hook part of your fastener. It will actually go on the door itself. Again, use your drill to make a starting hole. It makes the screwing by hand easier.
Check your door. Is it tight. Will it wiggle much.
If you did it correctly, your original door should also close.
The first time kitty or doggy tries to climb the door, scold him or her. After a second or third try, kitty or doggy will probably see it is a useless endeavor and give up, possibly to sleep outside the door.
